The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your answers, results, saved careers and roadmaps are stored on your phone, not on our servers.
- Your Interest Profiler answers go to O*NET (U.S. Department of Labor) to score them and find careers.
- The career you pick goes to Anthropic's Claude AI to build a roadmap, only after you tap “I agree.” It is not used to train AI models.
- We don't sell your information, show ads or track you across other apps.
Who we are
JSI Career Explorer (“the app”) is published by Osai Consulting LLC (“we,” “us”) for students and staff of the Justice Scholars Institute (JSI) at the University of Pittsburgh. This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes and the choices you have. Questions? Email nosa@osaiconsulting.com.
What the app keeps on your phone
The app saves the following on your device so you can come back to it later:
- Your Interest Profiler answers and your interest results.
- Careers you save and career roadmaps the app has created for you.
- Whether you agreed to the AI notice, so we don't ask again.
This information stays on your device. We do not copy it to our own servers. Deleting the app deletes it.
The app has no sign-in, so we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos or payment information. The app has no ads.
What leaves your phone, and why
O*NET Web Services (U.S. Department of Labor)
To score the Interest Profiler and show matching careers, the app sends your answers to O*NET Web Services, run by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. Career searches, industries you browse and careers you open are also sent so O*NET can return career details. No name or contact details are included.
Anthropic (Claude AI)
When you tap “Get Learning Roadmap,” the app sends the name of the career you picked to Anthropic's Claude AI service, which writes your step-by-step roadmap. The app asks your permission on a one-time screen before the first request. If you choose “Not now,” nothing is sent, and you can still take the Interest Profiler and explore careers.
The Trending Careers screen also asks Claude for a list of in-demand careers. That request contains no information about you.
Under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, Anthropic may not train its models on content sent through its API. Anthropic processes this content under its Data Processing Addendum.
Google Firebase
- Secure relay. Requests to O*NET and Anthropic pass through our server on Google Firebase (Cloud Functions), which keeps the access keys out of the app. The relay passes each request along and does not save what you send. Google may keep standard technical logs, such as the time of a request, for security and operations.
- Performance monitoring. The app uses Firebase Performance Monitoring to find slow screens and failed network requests. It collects technical data: device model, operating system and app version, approximate country, network request timing and a random app installation ID. It does not collect your answers or link this data to you. See Firebase privacy information.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't share your information with anyone except the services listed above, or when required by law.
How long information is kept
- On your phone: until you delete the app or clear its data.
- Anthropic and O*NET: for the limited time their own policies allow to process and secure requests.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring: under Google's retention schedule for that product.
Students and age
The app is meant for students age 13 and older in the JSI program, usually with a JSI staff member guiding them. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, email us and we will help.
Your choices
- Skip AI: tap “Not now” on the AI notice. Nothing is sent to Anthropic.
- Delete your data: delete the app. Because we don't keep your answers on our servers, there's nothing else to remove on our side.
- Ask us anything: email nosa@osaiconsulting.com about access, correction or deletion. We'll reply within 30 days.
Security
Information sent from the app is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Service keys are held on our Firebase server, not inside the app. No method of sending or storing data is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the information the app handles.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how your information is used, we'll also tell you in the app or through JSI staff before it takes effect.
